Let Those Who Ride Decide

Closure of Logue Brook to Offroad Riders

Subject: Closure of Logue Brook

Email to all motorcyclists Re closure of Logue Brook

I don't often send email to all members, however this is an issue that affects ALL motorcyclists, especially those who trail ride or have friends who do.

Motorcycling Western Australia has been involved for many years in issues affecting Off-road motorcycling (and on-road) particularly where our rights are being affected. To support progressing a better deal Motorcycling Western Australia has worked very closely with one of our affiliated clubs RTRA and several government departments to produce a State Trail Bike Strategy.

The draft of this is available from http://www.tbmaust.com.au/stbs.htm

The closure of Logue Brook and the entire catchment is just one more example where riders are being trodden on and ignored. This time however the closure is not just motorcycle sport; canoeists, walkers, cyclists, water ski, children's camps and many other sports and users are to be locked out.

Enduro's have been held from Logue Brook for over 30 years, and it has been a favourite trail ride destination since the invention of dirt bikes.

We have all banded together, not just to save Logue Brook, but to stave off a land grab by the Water Corp for a huge chunk of the South West which will affect our sport and members.

Please see below for copy of email from water ski on possible actions.

I would encourage you to do at least one of the following, preferably all three:

  • Attend the rally (ride your licensed bike or tow) – see below for detail on registering.
  • Sign the petition (see the website address below
  • Write to your local member of parliament

Please circulate this email to your friends for their action as well.

In the mean time Motorcycling Western Australia will continue to be proactive using our networks to work behind the scenes with government to get some action on this and any other issue affecting members and the wider motorcycling community.

Yours in motorcycling

Rick Gill

Hi Folks,

Still plenty of interest out there to push for the change of Kobelke’s decision to close Logue Brook and many of us have been putting it to the Govt. along with many other groups.

Had a meeting on Friday night with Murray Cowper (Liberal Politician) and a number of other people. It was agreed to hold a drive through rally towing boats, vans, fishing boats, trailers with bikes, camper trailers, jet skis and anything else that people use Logue Brook for (eg. Cars with kayaks, cars with mountain bikes, etc).

We are obviously wanting to see as many people assist us here to push the importance of losing the dam to all and sundry and get the media attention so pressure can be applied to the Govt. The only way these things work are with numbers.

There will be more info coming out which I will send to you and shortly all the info will be available on the website. www.saveloguebrookdam.com

The rally is to be held on March 19 and assembly time will be 11.30 am. Venue for assembly to be notified along with the route to be taken and timing for arrival at parliament house to listen to speakers etc.

Once again all who have enjoyed skiing and still do at Logue Brook are asked to assist in this matter. Would you be good enough to contact all your friends that may be able to attend as well.

We need to know numbers for this rally so we don’t look like clowns with no support. Please advise me if you are able to attend. If you would be good enough to ask any friends to notify me as well it would be much appreciated.

I thank you in anticipation of your positive responses.

We have nothing to lose here and much to gain.

Just a reminder there is a petition form at the above mentioned website. If you or your friends could further assist us there it would be appreciated. There is an address to forward completed sheets at the bottom of the petition. The petition is to be presented on the 25 Feb.

Regards,
Peter J Lyon
